The first video covers the steps to install the latest firmware updates for the Boot, App, and Trigger settings in your DM10. To find out what operating system and sound ROM you have on your DM10 module, choose the Utility button, press F4 (SYS), and then choose F3 (O/S). The screen will then show the version numbers of the current firmware on the module.

The Alesis DM10 Updater application allows you to easily update the OS and Sounds in your DM10. This application is available for both Mac OSX and Windows computers.
Prepare for the update
- Download the update files and the updater application from the DM10 page at Alesis.com. This includes the boot, app, triggers and may include sounds.
- Begin with the DM10 disconnected from your computer.
- Disconnect any 5-Pin MIDI cables connected to the DM10’s inputs or outputs.
- Disconnect any other USB MIDI, or USB Audio devices which are connected to your computer.
- Exit any applications on your computer which might be running.
- Now connect the DM10 to a rear USB port on your computer using a USB cable.

- Hold down the REC button while powering on the DM10.
Windows users may see a Found New Hardware Wizard at this point – hit cancel. It is OK to ignore any errors that you might encounter as they will not affect updating. - Open the DM10 Updater Application
- (Windows only) Select the DM10 USB MIDI Interface from the MIDI Interface menu.
On XP this will be called USB Audio Device. - Choose File and then Open and choose the .syx file in the 2 - DM10 Boot folder from the downloaded update.
- Press and hold the Record button on the DM10 module and choose Open. Release the Record button.
- The DM10 module will prompt to reboot. Power off the DM10.
- Repeat steps 1 - 6 for each subsequent file.
These files need to be installed in a particular order. The order is as follows:- DM10 Boot - 1dm0-boot-vx.xxx.syx
- DM10 App - 1dm0-app-vx.xxx.syx
- DM10 Triggers - DM10_triggers_Vx.xxx.syx
- DM10 Sound ROM - DM10_sound_rom-Vx.xx.syx
The installation is complete once all the files have been installed and the DM10 asks you to reboot a final time.
Note: If the update fails, DO NOT power down the DM10. Instead, repeat the procedure above from step 2 onward.

Prepare for the update
- Download the updater application from the DM10 page and purchase and download the Blue Jay Studios Drum Sound Library from Alesis.com/bluejay.
- Drag the downloaded zip files to your desktop and unzip them.
- Begin with the DM10 disconnected from your computer.
- Disconnect any 5-Pin MIDI cables connected to the DM10’s inputs or outputs.
- Disconnect any other USB MIDI, or USB Audio devices which are connected to your computer.
- Exit any applications on your computer which might be running.
- Now connect the DM10 to a rear USB port on your computer using a USB cable.
- Power on the module while holding the STOP and REC buttons. The DM10 module screen will show Diags and Serial #. Press the PLAY button and write down this serial number. You will need it during the Blue Jay Drums installation process.

Alesis DM10 - Blue Jay Update: Assigning Instruments To Triggers
After updating your DM10 module and installing the Bluejay Sound Set, you may notice that some triggers no longer have an instrument assigned and are not triggering any sounds. Have no fear! This guide walks through a few simple steps you can take so that you can get to playing with the new Bluejay sound set quickly and easily.

Editing Instruments In A Kit
- Press the DRUM KIT button on the module to go to the Main Instrument Edit Screen.
Next press the INST button underneath the EDIT section on the module. The next window will show the number and name of the drum kit whose Instruments (drum voices) you will be editing.
- Select INST (F1). The new screen will show:
- The trigger Voice you are editing (the Kit number and name of the Voice will be shown)
- The Layer (each Voice consists of two layers, each with its own Instrument)
- The Category (the type or 'class' of drum sound currently assigned to that Layer)
- The Instrument (the drum sound for that Layer)
- Select the trigger that is no longer producing sound by pressing NOTE CHASE then striking the desired trigger.
- Once that trigger is chosen you will notice that the Instrument: will show NONE. This is why that particular trigger is no longer sounding. An instrument will need to be assigned to it.
Select the Category you want to assign to that Voice by pressing CURSOR UP/DOWN to highlight the Category field, then use
the VALUE UP/DOWN buttons or VALUE DIAL to change it.Select the Instrument for that Layer by pressing CURSOR UP / DOWN to highlight the Instrument field, then use the VALUE UP/DOWN buttons or VALUE DIAL to change it. To hear the currently selected sound, strike the corresponding trigger or press PREVIEW on the module.
- Repeat steps 4-7 until all the triggers in the kit have instruments assigned to them and there are no pads not creating sound.
Saving Your Settings
- After Instruments have been assigned to each trigger has been chosen press STORE > F1 to choose DRUM KIT > F3 to choose Store.
- In the window that appears the display will ask 'Are you sure? Overwrite the destination?'. Press F1(YES) to confirm your choice to save the kit.
